Bears block Case's playoff run

Wash U blocks kick

Brandon Brown blocked a 20-yard field goal attempt by Case with 3:58 left and the Bears came back and did it again as time expired.

Austin Bateman ran for 237 yards and three touchdowns and Springfield survived the 342-yard, five-touchdown performance of Tim Bailey by sacking him five times as the Pride ended St. John Fisher’s Pool C hopes with a 55-49 road win.

Washington University blocked a 43-yard field goal in the final minute and kept its Pool B playoff hopes alive while effectively ending Case Western Reserve’s with a 14-13 road victory. The Bears blocked two field goals and a punt in the win.

No. 9 Wittenberg remained on pace for the NCAC title, beating No. 25 Wabash, 34-17, and setting the Tigers up with a shot to clinch next week against Wooster. The NEFC title game is set. Endicott will represent the Boyd Division after beating MIT, 38-7. Maine Maritime will represent the Bogan Division after beating Coast Guard, 63-47. The Mariners and Bears combined for 1,217 yards and eight fourth quarter touchdowns.

Montclair State, Cortland State and Rowan each won to keep the three-way tie scenario atop the NJAC in play. Cortland's conference schedule is done, headed into next week's Cortaca Jug game. Trine crushed Kalamazoo to remain unbeaten and can wrap up the MIAA automatic bid by beating Albion next week.

Ohio Northern remained in line for an at-large bid by crushing Wilmington, 44-6, while Bethel stomped Hamline, 52-0, behind 199 rushing yards from Logan Flannery to keep its at-large status intact.

St. Thomas and DePauw, who clinched in earlier weeks, continued their unbeaten runs. The Tommies are in the clubhouse at 10-0 after putting Carleton away in the second half of a 38-7 win, while DePauw defeated Austin College to head into Monon Bell week 9-0.

Trinity (Conn.) scored three times in the final six minutes to beat Amherst, 28-13, keeping the Lord Jeffs from entering their Week 11 rivalry game with Williams unbeaten. The Ephs held up their end of the bargain by rolling Wesleyan, 45-7.

Austin Bateman ran for 237 yards and three touchdowns and Springfield survived the 342-yard, five-touchdown performance of Tim Bailey by sacking him five times as the Pride ended St. John Fisher’s Pool B hopes with a 55-4 road win.

Washington University blocked a 43-yard field goal and kept its Pool B playoff hopes alive while effectively ending Case Western Reserve’s with a 14-13 road victory. The Bears blocked two field goals and a punt in the win.

Who's in? Muhlenberg clinched the Centennial Conference automatic bid with a 27-20 win against Ursinus and Franklin and Marshall's loss to Johns Hopkins. Washington and Lee held off Hampden-Sydney 38-27 to run the table and win the ODAC. Delaware Valley clinched the MAC title with a 42-17 win at Albright.

The Liberty League could be represented in the playoffs by a .500 team. St. Lawrence’s magic number remains at 1 as the Saints got crushed 34-7 at Rochester. It’s Rochester’s third consecutive win after an 0-6 start.

More to come.
