Holmes, Haas and Mitchell named CCIW Football Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Millikin’s Matt Holmes, along with North Central’s Quinn Haas and Josh Mitchell, were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Players of the Week Monday.

Holmes, a senior quarterback from Wheeling, Illinois and Wheeling High School (Accounting major), completed 23-of-38 passes for 275 yards and five touchdowns in a 55-13 win over Carthage on Saturday. In his final game with the Big Blue, Holmes also rushed for 87 yards on 16 carries and caught a 60-yard touchdown pass Erik Tobey that gave Millikin a 27-6 lead in the second quarter.

Haas, a freshman linebacker from Lena, Illinois and Lena-Winslow High School (Sport Management major), totaled nine tackles (four solo) and two tackles for loss during the Cardinals’ 37-6 win over Augustana on Saturday. Haas also finished with a half sack in helping lead North Central to a share of the conference title, the program’s seventh-straight since 2006.

Mitchell, a senior punt returner from Bloomington, Illinois and Bloomington High School (Sport Management major), scored North Central’s first touchdown against Augustana, returning a punt 80 yards into the end zone. The 80 yard return was the second-longest in school history as Mitchell finished with six punt returns for 224 yards (37.3 yard average) on the day. Augustana came into the game having allowed only 45 punt return yards all season.
