GREENWOOD, Ind. – Defiance College's Drew Kuesel accounted for all four Yellow Jacket touchdowns, including the eventual game-winning score in the final minute, to lift DC to a 28-21 win at Anderson on Saturday. Following the standout performance, Kuesel was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Kuesel rushed for three scores and 112 yards in the opening half against the Ravens to power Defiance to a 21-7 cushion at the break and then carried the pill seven times for 40 yards on the team's final drive of the game. Kuesel capped the drive and the scoring with a four-yard plunge into the end zone with 49 seconds remaining in the game.
The Patrick Henry High averaged 7.0 yards per rush on the afternoon, en route to a season-high 161 yards and a career-best four touchdowns. The 100-yard effort was the fifth in Kuesel's career on the gridiron with Defiance and the four scores upped the senior's career tally to 19.
Kuesel joins Rick Powell and Tony Sierra as the third Jacket to be recognized with an HCAC weekly award in the past three weeks and is the second-straight to do so on the offensive side of the ball, following Powell's accolade for his efforts in a 26-10 win over Earlham on October 15.
The Jackets (3-4, 3-2 HCAC) will travel to Rose-Hulman (3-4, 3-2 HCAC) on October 29 in search of their fourth win in a row. The game is set to begin at 1:30 pm.
