Five More Gridders Headed to Guilford College

More news about: Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College head football coach Chris Rusiewicz announced the intention of five more incoming students to play football for the Quakers Monday. All five students have made their deposit to the college and will enroll for classes beginning in August. They make up part of Rusiewicz's first recruiting class at Guilford since he took over the Quakers' program in January.

Alex Bean (Graham, N.C.) lettered two years under coach Mike McCauley at Graham High School.  The 5-11, 170-pound wide receiver earned honorable mention All-Mid-State 2A Conference recognition after making 30 receptions for a team-high 618 yards and five touchdowns for the Red Devils.  He also lettered twice in basketball and once in golf.

Steven Gregory (Hamptonville, N.C.) lettered twice for head coach Monty Chipman at East Wilkes High School. The 6-0, 185-pound kicker/punter garnered All-Wilkes County and All-Mountain Valley 1A/2A Conference recognition and was an honorable mention All-Northwest pick according to the Winston-Salem Journal. Gregory earned four baseball letters as a shortstop and pitcher and twice received all-league laurels. He also lettered two years with the basketball team and intends to study sports medicine at Guilford.

Jack Haymore (Winston-Salem, N.C.) lettered three years at South Stokes High School. The 6-0, 220-pound offensive lineman received All-Northwest 1A/2A Conference twice and was a First Team All-Foothills pick for coach Jonathan Frasher's team. He was the Red Raiders' Most Valuable Player this season in South Stokes' game with Surry Central High School. Haymore intends to study history at Guilford.

Daniel McFaddin (Kannapolis, N.C.) lettered three years under coach Ron Massey '80 at A.L. Brown High School. The 5-11, 240-pound offensive lineman won his team's Most Improved Player Award in 2010. The Wonders went 13-2 in McFaddin's senior season and he was a sophomore on the 2008 team that reached the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 3AA state title game.  Brown won the South Piedmont Conference title in each of McFaddin's three varsity seasons. He was the vice president of Brown's Beta Club and also earned a spot in the National Technical Honor Society.

Rod Walker, Jr. (Raleigh, N.C.) lettered two years under at Knightdale High School and earned All-Greater Neuse Conference honors for coach Robert Senseney in 2010.  The 6-0 wide receiver and defensive back led the Knights in receiving yards and catches in 2010. He also lettered with the track and field team and helped Knightdale to two state titles. Walker qualified three times for the states championship meet and placed fourth in the regional 300-meter hurdles. He intends to study business at Guilford.

The group looks to help Rusiewicz's Quakers starting Sept. 3 with the 2011 season opener against Greensboro College. Kickoff for the 15th annual Gate City Soup Bowl is 1:00 p.m. at Grimsley High School's Jamieson Stadium.
