Coach retires after two years at Olivet

More news about: Olivet

Olivet coach Rich Hulkow has announced his retirement from coaching, according to an announcement from athletic director Heather Bateman.

Hulkow joined the college in 2010 after retiring from Marshall High School, where he served as head football coach and athletic director for 25 years. The Comets have gone 1-19 in those two seasons.

"Over his two years in leading our program, Rich has led with integrity and character," Bateman said. "The work he's done has laid a good foundation for launching a new era of Comet football."

The college plans to initiate an immediate search for Hulkow's successor, according to a statement from Olivet president Steven Corey. "I've asked athletic director Heather Bateman to initiate a search immediately for our next head football coach and to coordinate a smooth transition for our student-athletes and the program," Corey said. "I wish Rich good luck as he transitions into retirement, and look forward to supporting our athletic director and new head coach in building a strong football program here at Olivet."

Hulkow, who coached at Marshall from 1984 to 2009, posted a 210-84 record with two Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) championships.
