Around the Region

We've broken Division III football down into seven regions to enhance our coverage of regional stories. Our regional columnists will file weekly columns covering their part of the country. Here's how they break down:
Northeast: ECFC, NEFC, NESCAC
East: E8, LL, MAC, NJAC
Mid-Atlantic: Centennial, ACFC, ODAC, USAC
Great Lakes: MIAA, NCAC, OAC, PAC
South: ASC, SCAC
Midwest: CCIW, HCAC, NATHC, MWC
West: IIAC, MIAC, NWC, SCIAC, WIAC

Each column will also cover independents in their part of the country, as well as teams from multi-region conferences. The most recent submission from each columnist is below:

When asked before the season what would define their season, McMurry coach Hale Mumme had a simple answer. “Getting a win,” Mumme said after taking over a program that had lost 13 in a row entering the season. “They haven’t had one of those around...

Middlebury quarterback Donald McKillop and his teammates did something Saturday that nobody has been able to do in a long time. The Maine Maritime Mariners did something nobody has ever done. At least not in Division III. The Mariners amassed 730 rushing yards in a 76-49...

MidwestTitans take control of CCIW destiny (Nov 04)
Illinois Wesleyan's current run in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin has been three years in the making, one could say. The Titans captured the share of the CCIW title in 2007 in North Central and compiled a 7-3 record. Some would think that kind...

Mid-AtlanticOgun's season reshaped by injury (Nov 03)
Sometimes the mountain a player has to climb doesn't involve a difficult opponent or a week of grueling practice. Sometimes it's much more personal and challenges his physical and mental limitations in ways he hadn't before known. Tunde Ogun and his Christopher Newport teammates came into...

Great LakesPatience pays off for Rocco (Nov 03)
There is something to be said for learning an offense by serving as a backup. Mount Union senior quarterback Kurt Rocco spent three seasons behind Greg Micheli and watched the Purple Raiders win two NCAA championships, while playing in three finals. With Micheli, the 2008 Gagliardi Trophy...

EastSusquehanna could take LL title with it (Nov 04)
When the casual fan of Division III football looks at the teams in the East Region, they know the names of the perennially good ones -- Ithaca, Springfield, RPI, Union, Hobart, Delaware Valley, Albright, Cortland, Rowan -- and the list goes on. But just like Lebanon...
