MARIETTA, Ohio — Sophomore quarterback Joe Tenta threw four touchdown passes leading Marietta College to a 37-14 win over Bluffton University Saturday (Nov. 15) afternoon. The Pioneers and the Beavers both end the season with 5-5 overall records.
Trailing 14-9 with 5:49 left in the second quarter, Marietta scored 28 unanswered points to beat Bluffton. Those 28 points came on Tenta's four touchdown passes, including three to senior John Sierputowski.
Tenta completed scoring strikes to Sierputowski of 16 yards, 25 yards and 6 yards. His other touchdown pass was a 7-yarder to Dalton Miller.
Marietta opened the scoring when Benny Lewis ran it in from 7 yards out with 5:29 left in the first quarter. The Pioneers' two-point conversion failed. Bluffton responded with a 5-play, 76-yard drive for a 7-6 Beaver lead.
James Cornwell made it 9-7 in favor of the Pioneers with a 41-yard field goal in the first minute of the second quarter. The Beavers struck right back as Jashawn Wyckoff connected with Tywuan Clark on a 28-yard touchdown pass and a 14-9 Bluffton lead.
Tenta completed 17-of-30 passes for 283 yards and four touchdowns. Sierputowski caught 6 passes for 120 yards and three scores. Miller had 3 catches for 54 yards and one touchdown.
Vante' Hodges led the ground attack with 84 yards on 14 carries. Lewis finished with 75 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries.
Clark completed 13-of-21 passes for 148 yards and one touchdown for the Beavers. Wyckoff had 5 catches for 53 yards and one score. Jaivon Hudson ran the ball 9 times for 97 yards.
