LATROBE, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College football team (4-2, 4-0) handled the Saint Vincent Bearcats (2-5, 1-4) in a 56-10 showing Saturday afternoon. The win is the fourth-straight for the Presidents, who stay perfect in PAC play.
The Presidents run game controlled the matchup in the victory. Andrew Sharp (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) led all backs with 17 carries for 103 yards and three touchdowns. Kobe Derosa (New Castle, Pa./Laurel) had 80 yards on 17 attempts for two touchdowns on the ground. Kellan Stahl (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) led the team through the air going 19-for-27 for 254 yards with two touchdowns. Jacob Macosko (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) led all receivers with six receptions for 124 yards and one touchdown.
Brock Sherman (Copley, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) had a nose for the football with 13 total tackles, a fumble recovery and 0.5 tackle for loss. Antoine Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic), Aidan Thomas (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) and Alex Boyce (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) all had two sacks. Smith forced the fumble recovered by Sherman while Thomas picked up his first career interception. Angelo Volomino (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) led the team in pass breakups with three on the day.
After creating a three-and-out on the Bearcats first drive, the Presidents got on the board with a six-play touchdown drive. Sharp trotted in for the six-yard rushing touchdown to put W&J up 7-0. The Bearcats responded with a field goal, sparked by a 59-yard screen pass, 7-3.
The Presidents broke the game open in the second quarter with four touchdowns. All but one drive led to points on the board. John Peduzzi (Hilton Head, S.C./Hilton Head Christian Academy) and Macosko each hauled in receiving touchdowns followed by a one-yard rushing score from Derosa. Sharp scampered in for a seven-yard touchdown to close out the quarter scoring, 35-10.
The two-headed machine of Sharp and Derosa got back to work in the third quarter, each bulldozing their way to short-yardage rushing scores. Dom Barca (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) rushed for an eight-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to bring the contest to its final score of 56-10.
W&J football returns to Cameron Stadium this coming Saturday (Oct. 25) for an afternoon matchup with Waynesburg University. Kickoff is set for a 1:00 p.m. start.
