OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson held Widener to just three points as the Mustangs (2-0, 1-0 Middle Atlantic Conference) defeated the Pride (1-1, 1-1 Middle Atlantic Conference) 19-3 at Mustang Stadium on Saturday afternoon in the home opener for the Mustangs.
Stevenson moved to 2-0 for the first time since 2022, which also marked the last time the Mustangs won their MAC opener. The Mustangs ran their win streak against the Pride to seven and held the Pride to three points for the second straight matchup.
Stevenson won the game with just 213 yards of total offense, while Widener was held to 212 yards on the afternoon.
Edward Emmens, subbing in for Louis Clouser who left with an injury in the first, had 93 yards on 26 carries and a score. Seth Parker rushed for 32 yards on four carries with a late score, while Jailen Knight rushed for a score.
Knight threw for 66 yards on 8-for-16 passing with 41 of those yards going to Parker. Parker caught three passes on the day.
Both teams combined for 20 punts, with Sam McKinney averaging 43 yards on ten attempts.
Defensively, Stevenson got nine tackles form Tysean Milligan who also had two tackles for losses of 3 yards. The Mustang defensive unit had seven tackles for losses of 35 yards, including three sacks.
Widener was led by 97 passing yards from Eil Warfel who completed five passes to Malachi Holmes.
Stevenson finished the game converting on both of its Red Zone chances.
The Mustangs got on the board in the first quarter as Knight capped an eight-play, 84-yard drive in 4:20 with a five-yard run for a 6-0 lead with 2:55 left in the quarter. Micah Veilleux's PAT was blocked but Widener did not return it for two points.
On its next drive, Stevenson went six plays in 54 yards, with Emmens finishing the drive with a 6-yard run and a 12-0 lead with 12:48 left in the second. Widener got its only points in the second quarter as Fred Adler kicked a 42-yard field goal with 6:30 left, cutting the Mustang lead to 12-3.
The lone score in the second half came with 1:52 left in the game as Parker rushed up the middle for 29 yards and the final 19-3 margin.
Robert Counsellor recovered a muffed Widener punt in the fourth quarter, the lone turnover by both teams in the contest.
Stevenson – who will not be home again till October 10 – will head to Alvernia next Saturday.
