More news about: Western Connecticut

DANBURY, Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University Wolves set a new single-game scoring record and defeating the visiting Framingham State University Rams, 76-18, in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) football action this afternoon at Westside Stadium.  WestConn, ranked No. 6 in New England, improves to 7-2 overall and 7-1 in the MASCAC, while the Rams drop to 2-7 overall and 2-6 in the league.  The Wolves host MASCAC Castleton in the final game of the 2024 regular season on Saturday, November 16 at 2 p.m.  The 76 points breaks WestConn's previous record of 70 scored against Fitchburg State in 2013.

WestConn opened up momentous leads of 28-6 after one quarter and 55-12 at halftime.  Senior RB Kamryn Holmes (Branford, Conn.) rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns and sophomore WR Dae'Shawn Allen (White Plains, N.Y.) had 151 receiving yards and three touchdowns for the Wolves.  WestConn senior QB John Giller (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) threw for five touchdowns in the first half and classmate Keion Jones (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) added a touchdown pass in the second half.  Senior WR Julian Ferguson (Enfield, Conn.) added a pair of touchdown catches and senior Anthony Weidtman (Nesconset, N.Y.) made10 PATs and became the all-time scoring leader in WestConn football history with 207 in his Wolves career.  The Wolves' 11 touchdowns was also a school record.

WestConn created countless opportunities for its offense with big plays on defense and special teams.  The Wolves recovered two Ram fumbles, intercepted four passes, and blocked a punt.  Sophomore LB Eamon Moran (Stratford, Conn.) totaled six tackles, an interception and a pass breakup, and senior DB Milleeq Green (Bridgeport, Conn.) had five solo tackles, a pick, and two pass breakups for the Wolves.  Junior LB Sean Pawlak (Wolcott, Conn.) had two sacks and junior Kevin Martinson (New Fairfield, Conn.) blocked a punt, recovered the ball, and returned the ball almost to the end zone.

Framingham State rushed 35 times for just 66 yards, averaging 1.9 yards per carry.  Makoto Uchikawa ran for one Ram touchdown, while Alex Maia and Kesean Spruill caught scoring passes for the visitors.  Elijah Nichols threw for 99 yards and one touchdown and Tanner Leo threw the other touchdown for the Rams.  Tyrell Fuller led all tacklers with eight, all solo and Nick Quintana made three tackles and recovered a fumble for Framingham State.  Three different Ram punters averaged less than 20 yards per attempt and Framingham State kickers missed all three of the team's PATs.  The Rams had the ball for just 19 minutes the entire game.
