Fabrocini sets school career rushing record as DU football wins big on Senior Day

More news about: Denison

GRANVILLE, Ohio (Nov. 9) – The Denison University football team scored early and often to celebrate Senior Day in style with a 63-0 win over visiting Oberlin College on a sunny fall afternoon Saturday at Deeds Field – Piper Stadium.

The win moves Denison to 5-4 overall and 4-2 in the NCAC. Oberlin is now 0-9 overall and 0-7 in conference action. The Big Red have won 11-straight versus the Yeomen in the head-to-head series.

Highlighting the win was running back Trey Fabrocini, who rushed for 112 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown. That total allowed Fabrocini to surpass Chris Spriggs as Denison's all-time leading rusher. Spriggs previous total of 4,248 yards had stood since 1986. Fabrocini already held the Denison record for career rushing touchdowns, a mark he set last year.

First-year quarterback Tyler Green put together another efficient effort. Green finished with five passing touchdowns while completing 10-of-12 attempts for 189 yards.

Green tossed four touchdowns to four different receivers during the first quarter. The first touchdown strike came when he hit Tommy Asleson for a 20-yard touchdown at the 9:13 mark.

Following an interception by Collin Murphy, Denison scored on its first possession of its next drive. A 54-yard passing touchdown from Green to Alex Stackhouse made it 14-0 at the 7:04 mark.

After another three-and-out for Oberlin, which concluded with a sack on third down by Michael Ballenger, was followed with another short scoring drive. Consecutive runs of 20 and 16 yards gave Fabrocini the record. A play later, a one yard passing touchdown from Green to Aidan Brownlee stretched the lead to 21-0 with 3:43 showing on the first quarter clock.

The Denison defense forced its second turnover on the game on Oberlin's ensuing possession. A sack by Reubin Perin caused a fumble which Shawn Ugbana recovered at the Denison 47. Three plays later, Green found an open Billy Guzzo for a 42-yard passing score. That score came with one second remaining in the quarter as Denison led 28-0 after 15 minutes.

Denison added three more touchdowns in the second quarter. All three scores came via the ground game. Fabrocini scored untouched as he sprinted 20 yards up the middle for a TD at the 13:15 mark. Blayton Reidadded an eight-yard touchdown run while Nicholas Saccu scored from 21 yards out later in the quarter. The trio of rushing scores made it 49-0 Denison at halftime.

The Big Red added a touchdown in both the third and fourth quarters to conclude the scoring. Green found Asleson for a 31-yard touchdown pass at the 11:34 mark of third quarter. Owen Fallon then rushed 13 yards early in the fourth to extend the Denison advantage to 63-0.

Denison finished with a 447-152 advantage in total offense. The Big Red rushed for 249 yards.

The Denison defense registered six sacks on the day. Perin finished with three sacks, four tackles for loss and a forced fumble. Balleneger added 1.5 sacks and four tackles.

The unit limited Oberlin to a 2-of-16 effort on third downs and allowed just eight first downs. Denison finished with 13 tackles for loss in the winning effort.

Daniel Cunningham converted all nine extra point attempts during the win.
