ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College football team closed out Liberty League play with a shutout of St. Lawrence, 41-0, on Senior Day at Bertino Field at Butterfield Stadium on November 9. The Bombers have now won five straight games and 6-3 on the season, and posted its third shutout of the year, which is the first time for an IC team to shutout an opponent three or more times in a season since 1988.
Ithaca put up 462 yards (194 rushing and 268 passing) of offense on 23 first downs and 10-of-15 on third downs. The IC defense held St. Lawrence to 177 yards and just 24 yards on the ground.
The Bombers won the coin toss and received the opening kick. It took IC just two plays to put points on the board as Matthew Parker hit Sam Kline for a 24-yard gain on the first snap and then found Nicholas Matos for a 42-yard touchdown just 48 seconds into the contest.
That was the only score of the first quarter, but Parker began the second period with a 45-yard completion to Kline down to the SLU 6-yard line. Jake Williams punched in a touchdown on the next play to make it 14-0.
With 3:52 left in the half, IC extended its lead to 21-0 as Kline hauled in a 5-yard pass from Parker to cap off an 80-yard drive. Kline also had a 24-yard catch on the drive as he finished the game with six receptions for 115 yards.
The Bombers regained possession near midfield with less than two minutes to go in the half and put another touchdown on the board with 45 seconds remaining as Nicholas Lang made a one-handed catch for a 14-yard completion to make it 28-0 heading into halftime.
Matos had 36 receiving yards on that drive as he finished the afternoon with 81 yards on four catches. Parker was 14-of-18 in the first half with three touchdown passes and 249 yards. He would finish with 264 yards on 16-of-20 attempts.
In the second half, St. Lawrence went 3-and-out to start the quarter as Isaiah Couser and Carson Ciancuielli combined on a sack to end the drive. On the Bombers' next possession, Ben Marinaccio made an 11-yard grab on third down to continue the drive and then Jalen Leonard-Osbourne closed out possession with a 15-yard touchdown run to make it 35-0 with 10:22 on the clock.
Ithaca tacked on six more points in the fourth quarter on field goals from Derek Baldin. The first make was from 48 yards out with 6:16 left in the game and the other was from 31 yards in the final minute.
Williams and Leonard-Osbourne combined for 120 yards rushing as Williams had 64 yards and Leonard-Osbourne finished with 56. Leonard-Osbourne also had 17 receiving yards. Colin Schumm rushed for 51 yards and Michael Reed added 30 yards on the ground.
Jake Connolly led the defense with 10 total tackles, while Joe Spirra, Darren Brunner and Henry Tackas all had six tackles.
The Bombers will wrap up their regular season at the 65th Cortaca Jug Game at No. 2 Cortland next Saturday at 12 p.m. Cortland is undefeated at 9-0 following a 29-28 win at Brockport to win the Empire 8.
