WILMINGTON, Ohio - Heidelberg University held the Wilmington College offense to under 200 yards as the Student Princes left Williams Stadium with a 57-7 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) victory on Saturday afternoon.
The game opened with a big play for the Fightin' Quakers as Quentin Davis intercepted a Drew Sims pass on a corner route and setup the host's offense in the red zone. Ben Hobbs began the offense's first possession with a four-yard rush, but two incompletions stalled the drive. Placekicker Seth Best, who entered the game 6-of-7 on the year, came in for a 28-yard attempt. The snap was very low, however, resulting in a blocked kick.
Heidelberg scored touchdown on its next two possession as a 61-yard scamper from Montavious Yearby setup the first touchdown and a Sims pass to Dimitri Penick for 34 yards beginning the other touchdown drive.
Trailing 14-0, Wilmington's offense went three-and-out, but the Quaker defense did the same as Luke Wroten sacked Sims to pin the Heidelberg punting unit in its own end zone. The hosts took advantage of the short field as Hobbs broke free for 28 yards on the drive's first play. Five plays later, quarterback Adam Dixon found Ace Taylor for a one-yard score.
That would prove to be the Quakers' only points of the day as the Student Princes scored 43 unanswered points the rest of the way. The game's final points set a new Heidelberg record as Branden Steckel connected on 53-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter.
Heidelberg outgained Wilmington 413-174 in the game including by a 236-103 margin on the ground. Both squads threw one interception while the Student Princes had four sacks and the Quakers two.
Sims finished 12-of-17 for 160 yards and four touchdowns with Penick hauling in four passes for 99 yards and a score. Yearby finished with 107 yards on 13 carries while Jarin Curtis ran the ball 16 times for 90 yards and two scores.
Dixon finished the game 15-of-26 for 72 yards and a touchdown. Hobbs carries 14 times for 60 yards while Taylor had five receptions for 28 yards and a touchdown reception.
Defensively, Jarod Lee had 10 tackles and a sack for the Quaker defense while Kaleb Easley and Zac Schmidt both had eight tackles. Zachary Blackiston led the Heidelberg defense with seven tackles and was one of three Student Princes, alongside Andrew DeHart and Parker Smith, to have solo sacks.
Wilmington (3-5, 2-5 OAC) will return home for one final time in 2022 next Saturday against Muskingum University. Kickoff for the Senior Day content is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
