Making just his second career start Even Wydajewski threw eight touchdown passes to set the school and conference record as the Benedictine University football team returned from a bye week with a 70-27 win at Rockford.
Two early turnovers enabled Benedictine to storm to a 14-0 lead less than two minutes into the game. Kyle Easley recovered a fumble to set up a Nick Shelton touchdown grab and Blake Davis tallied an interception to set the stage for a 53-yard run from Gregory Hoard.
Benedictine scored the first 28 points of the game and led 42-7 at halftime. Wydajewski completed 23 passes for 348 yards with the eight touchdowns. Seven different receivers caught passes with three snaring touchdowns. Sami Ayash caught seven passes for 140 yards and two scores. Deandre Holliday grabbed six passes, three for touchdowns and Shelton also reeled in three scores. Hoard ran for 179 yards on just 17 carries.
Benedictine finished with 654 yards of offense, 306 on the ground and 348 through the air. Cy Taylor, Sergio Ayala and Braxton White led the defense with seven tackles each.
Benedictine (6-1, 4-1 NACC) welcomes Aurora on Saturday in a game that could decide the conference championship.
