DePauw Wraps Up NCAC Outright Title; Monon Bell Next

More news about: DePauw

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw totaled a school-record 502 passing yards and the defense recorded a pair of scores as the Tigers topped Oberlin, 66-13, in a North Coast Athletic Conference game on Nick Mourouzis Field at Blackstock Stadium. With the win, DePauw moved to 8-1 overall and 8-0 in the NCAC and secured the NCAC outright title and the conference's automatic qualification into the NCAA Division III Championship. Oberlin slipped to 1-8 overall and 1-7 in the conference.

DePauw travels to Crawfordsville on Saturday, November 13, for the 127th meeting with Wabash and the 89th for possession of the Monon Bell which entered the series in 1932. Kickoff is set for 1:07 p.m. The Tigers regained possession of the Bell in 2019 with a 17-13 win in Greencastle.

Today, the Tigers jumped out to a 21-0 lead early in the second on touchdown passes from Chase Andries to Trey Shaw, Jaylon Smith and Josh Major

Oberlin's Chris Allen tossed a 3-yard pass to Brandon Davies with 8:23 left in the second, but the Tigers came right back as Andries connected with Smith on scores of 18 and 94 yards to extend the lead to 35-7 with 1:07 remaining in the half.

Jack Drake's 38-yard field goal early in the third made it 38-7 before Brevon Gude picked off Allen's pass late in the third and returned it 51 yards for a score.

Nathan McCahill teamed with Trent Veith for a 20-yard score with 9:39 left in the game before Matthew Coons scored on a 53-yard run with 2:50 remaining on the first play after an Oberlin punt.

On Oberlin's next play from scrimmage, Cortez Stoudemire intercepted an Evan Smith-Rooks pass and took it 30 yards for the Tigers' final score.

The Yeomen put together a 10-play, 79-yard series and scored on the game's final play as Matt Siff connected with Ty Weatherspoon for a 23-yard score.

DePauw outgained Oberlin, 639-310, and the Tigers broke the program's single-game record with 502 passing yards on just 29 attempts.

Andries completed 16 of 22 passes with career highs of five touchdowns and 391 yards. Josh Major caught six for a career-best 125 yards, while Smith hauled in three for 145 yards and three scores.

Allen competed 16 of 31 passes for 154 yards with Davies catching six for 60 yards.

Luca Friedman led Oberlin with 11 tackles including two for losses and David Harris added nine stops.
