Brody Davis’ Career Day Surges Millsaps Past Sewanee, 42-32

JACKSON, Miss. – Freshman quarterback Brody Davis' had a career day with 369 all-purpose yards and five total touchdowns to lift Millsaps to a 42-32 victory over the University of the South. Sophomore wideout Temias Mason tallied seven catches for 186 yards and a touchdown at Harper Davis Field on Saturday.

Freshman wide receiver Xavion Butler and sophomore power back Jaidon Horton also found the endzone for the Majors.

Davis ran for three scores and added two through the air. The Business major passed was 19-for-32 passing with 320 yards and added 49 yards on the ground.

Senior defensive back Cade Broussard tormented the Tigers' offense with 10 tackles, one pass breakup and one tackle for loss. Millsaps (2-6, 2-3 SAA) highlighted the defensive stat sheet with four other Majors recording a tackle for loss with junior defensive back Christopher Butler leading the way with 1.5.

Freshman defensive back Daijhae Abate was everywhere on the field with one forced fumble and one pass breakup to go along with his three tackles. Marquis Tenner, Jett Coolman and Dazerick Patton all found the quarterback in the backfield accounting for a sack.

Rookie kicker Cameron Beall was a perfect 6-for-6 on PATs. He added five punts for 166 yards, averaging 33.2 yards per kick.

Sewanee (0-8, 0-5 SAA) had a run-heavy offense that featured a heavy dose of the Wildcat. They were able to rush for 400 yards on 6.3 yards per carry.

Millsaps (2-6, 2-3 SAA) out passed Sewanee 320-23 yards, and held the Tigers to only two pass completions on the day.

The action started fast with an 83-yard bomb from Davis to Mason on the third play for Millsaps from scrimmage. On the Majors' next drive, Horton would finish off a six-play, 59-yard drive when Horton would make multiple defenders miss on his way to the endzone to extend the advantage to 14-0.

Sewanee answered with a six-play drive of their own that featured all runs and a missed extra point to make it a 14-6 game to open the second quarter.

Davis would respond using his legs as weapons with a 28-yard scamper where he made a man miss in open field on his way to his first rushing touchdown of the game. On the following possession for Sewanee, an interception by senior defensive back Nick Ojonta gave the Majors excellent field position at the Sewanee 38-yard line. A four-play drive would be capped off with a touchdown from Davis to Xavion Butler to give the Majors a 28-6 lead heading into halftime.

After a three-and-out to begin the third quarter by the Majors, Sewanee continued to establish an identity on the ground. Sewanee utilized an 11-play drive that featured 10 runs to help cut the Majors' lead to 28-12 following a failed two-point conversion.

Following another three-and-out by Millsaps, Sewanee seemed to have turned the momentum favor with a 75-yard rushing touchdown down the sideline to make it a 28-18 game with just over six minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Millsaps would regroup with an 11-play, 74-yard touchdown that ended with Davis' second rushing touchdown of the day, from three yards out to make the score 35-18.

Sewanee responded with another 14-play, six-minute drive that ended with a touchdown with 10:45 remaining to make the score 35-25.

After Sewanee forced a punt, a 51-yard rush down the sideline would cut the Majors' lead to 35-32 with 6:15 left in the game.

Millsaps would proceed to put the game out of reach with a nine-play, 65-yard drive that lasted just under four minutes. On a drive where the Majors converted two crucial third downs, Davis followed Horton into the endzone for his third and final score of the game, this time on fourth down, to help give Millsaps the 42-32 win.

Millsaps will next face Hendrix at Little Rock's War Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. CT. Live video and stats links will be available on gomajors.com.
