12 Pacific players honored by Northwest Conference

More news about: Pacific

12 members of the Pacific University football team were named to the 2019 All-Northwest Conference football team that was announced today by conference officials. The Boxers landed three players on the first team, seven on the second team and two individuals were selected honorable mention.

On the first team was junior running back Joshua Harris (Sonora, Calif. / Sonora Union) and a pair of Boxer offensive lineman junior Roman Okonowski (Queen Creek, Ariz.) and sophomore Mitchell Ulrich (Ripon, Calif.). All three played a key role in a record-setting offense in 2019 for the Boxers.

Okonowski and Ulrich anchored an offensive line that had 1,876 yards rushing on 408 attempts for 19 touchdowns – the most since Pacific brought back football in 2010. Not only were Oknowoski and Ulrich punishing run blockers, they were just as dominant in pass protection. Boxer quarterbacks completed 238 of 352 passes for 2,684 yards and 21 touchdowns. The 238 completions and 2,684 yards are also the most since the return of football in 2010. Combined the Boxer offense set new single-season total offense marks for yards (4,560) and touchdowns (70).

Harris, who last week was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, was one of 10 unanimous first team all-conference selections. He established school single-season records for yards (1,279) and touchdowns (15) and his 233 rushes are the second most. Harris ended the season with a school record six-straight 100-yard games.

On the second team, three members of the offense – wide receivers Kobe Williams (Las Vegas, Nev. / Andre Agassi College Prep) and Ty Hargis (Lebanon, Ore.) along with quarterback Kenyon Harris (Ogden, Utah / Ben Lomond) and four members of the defense including defensive lineman Tui Tuitele (Milwaukie, Ore.), linebackers Gage Quinabo-Reis (Kaimuki, Hawaii / Kalani) and Michael Timmerman (Torrance, Calif. / El Camino) and defensive back Declan Brown (Layton, Utah).

Kenyon Harris, who became the first Pacific quarterback to have three 400-yard games in a season, completed 179 of 241 passes for 2,048 yards and 17 touchdowns. His 179 completions (fifth most since 2010), 2048 yards (sixth most) and 17 touchdowns (sixth most). Williams caught 41 passes for 742 yards and eight touchdowns to wrap up a record-setting Pacific career. He finished his career as the school's all-time leader in receiving yards (2,860), receptions (200) and receiving TDs (27). Hargis caught 78 passes – the third most in a season - for 765 yards (ninth most) in 2019. He also had a school record 33 kickoff returns for 766 kick return yards.

Tuitele wrapped up his Pacific career with four tackles for loss and two sacks, plugging up the middle as a defensive tackle. Plus, on three occasions, the Boxer defense allowed under 100 yards rushing. Quinabo-Reis and Timmerman were the top two tackles for Pacific in 2019. Quinabo-Reis was the top tackler with 68, just ahead of Timmerman with 67. Quinabo-Reis led the team with four sacks en route to six tackles for loss; whereas, Timmerman led the Boxers with 10 tackles for loss and two sacks. Leading the Boxer secondary was junior Brown, who earned second team in 2018. Brown, who was responsible for the top receiving threats on the top opposition, came away with a team-high 16 pass breakups to go along with an interception and a hurry to go along with 29 tackles.

Senior center Zack Mason (Milwaukie, Ore. / Rex Putman) and sophomore wide receiver Kyle Kern (Roseville, Calif. / Woodcreek) were named honorable mention. Mason, the leader of the offensive line, made crucial calls to lead the record-setting offense. Kern was third on the team in with 40 receptions for 500 yards and second with six receiving touchdowns. He also had a pair of 100-plus yard receiving games and had a catch in eight of 10 games.

With 12 selections in 2019, Pacific has had 100 student-athletes secure all-conference recognition since 2010. The 12 selections are the third most in program history since the return of football in 2010.
