2018 D3football.com All-America Team

SHENANDOAH, TX – Johns Hopkins head coach Jim Margraff has been named the D3football.com National Coach of the Year and two of his players – junior quarterback David Tammaro and junior guard Joe Figueroa – have been named to the organization's All-America team it was recently announced.  Tammaro garnered Second Team All-America honors, while Figueroa was an honorable mention selection.
 
Margraff guided the Blue Jays to a 12-2 record, a 10^th straight Centennial Conference title and an eighth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Playoffs.  Johns Hopkins advanced to the NCAA Semifinals for the first time in school history and the 12 wins the Blue Jays amassed this season are a school record.  This is the first time Margraff has been selected as the national coach of the year by any organization; he has been named the D3football.com South Region Coach of the Year twice (2011, 2018), the AFCA Regional Coach of the Year three times (2011, 2014, 2016) and the Centennial Conference Coach of the Year four times (2011, 2012, 2014, 2016).
 
Margraff ended the 2018 season with a 29-year record of 221-89-3 (.711) since taking over at Johns Hopkins in 1990.  He is the winningest coach in Johns Hopkins and Centennial Conference history and his 221 wins are also the most of any college football coach in Maryland state history.  Among active Division III head coaches, he ranks third in career wins.
 
The 2018 Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Tammaro becomes the first Johns Hopkins quarterback to earn All-America honors with his selection to the second team.  Also a First Team All-Centennial Conference, a First Team D3football.com All-South Region and a Second Team CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-America selection, Tammaro shattered virtually every Johns Hopkins single-season passing record in 2018.
 
Tammaro is one of just four Division III football players in the nation who earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors and D3football.com All-America honors this season.
 
Tammaro was 303-of-451 for 4,111 yards and 35 touchdowns against just seven interceptions this season.  His marks for attempts, completions and yards are all Johns Hopkins single-season records, while his 35 touchdown passes tie the school record.  He also set a school record with 4,505 yards of total offense.
 
Like Tammaro, Figueroa adds his selection as a D3football.com Honorable Mention All-American to an already impressive list of honors from the 2018 season.  He had previously been named to the Associated Press Division III Football All-America Second Team, First Team All-Centennial Conference for the second consecutive season and to the Second Team D3football.com All-South Team.  This is the fourth time in seven years that a Johns Hopkins offensive lineman has earned All-America honors from multiple organizations; Figueroa joins Armand Jenifer (2012, 2013) and Colin Egan (2016) on this distinguished list.
 
The Johns Hopkins offense, with Figueroa anchoring the line, averaged 45.8 points and 550.3 yards per game.  Both of those marks are school single-season records, while the Blue Jays' 339.4 passing yards ranked second in school history.  Johns Hopkins also set school records for rushing (48), passing (39) and overall touchdowns (91).
