Recap: Alfred scored twice in the final 1:13 of the second quarter to help distance itself from Hartwick on Saturday in a 41-3 victory over the Hawks. The Saxons jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter before the Hawks got on the scoreboard after a fumble recovery with 12 minutes left in the half. Quarterbacks Grant Harman (Liberty, NY/Liberty) and Bryce Macina (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga Central) completed three passes for 13 yards to Connor Darmetko (Menands, NY/Watervliet) and another two passes for 14 yards to Jack Steinman (North Haven, CT/North Haven) to set up a Kevin Roberts' (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central) 20-yard field goal. Another Alfred fumble gave the ball back to the Hawks and they went for it on a 4th and 10 from the Saxon 42 with under two minutes left, but a sack gave it back to AU. The visitors capitalized with a touchdown two plays later. A fumble on the ensuing kickoff would lead to three more points for Alfred, who led 27-3 at halftime. The Saxons would tack on two more scores in the fourth quarter for the final 41-3 score line. The Saxons would out-gain the Hawks 437 to 149 in the game. Hartwick would turn the ball over seven times on a rainy and wet afternoon. Harman would lead the Hawks with 117 passing yards on 11 completions. Steinman had six catches for 73 yards with Darmetko catching five balls for 26 yards. Rusty Virkler (Apalachin, NY/Vestal) had three receptions for 33 yards. Keegan Syron (East Marion, NY/Greenport) led all players with 11 tackles for 'Wick. Patrick Skidgell (Pine Plains, NY/Stissing Mountain) added nine hits, including two tackles for loss. Dylan Williams-Bachman (Homer, NY/Homer) contributed seven tackles and two TFLs.
