No. 13 Saints Defeat Thiel, 63-16, to Clinch PAC Title

More news about: Thomas More

(GREENVILLE, Pa.) – The 13th-ranked Thomas More College football team clinched at least a share of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) title as it defeated Thiel College, 63-16, today (Saturday, November 5, 2016) at Alumni Stadium in Greenville, Pennsylvania.

With the win, the Saints end the regular season at 9-1 overall and 8-0 in the PAC.  The PAC title is the fourth-straight season and eight of the last nine season that Thomas More has at least shared the title.  If Case Western Reserve University wins next week against Carnegie Mellon University, the Saints and Spartans will share the title and a Tartans' win will give the Saints the out-right title.  The NCAA will broadcast the Division III Playoff selection show on the evening of November 13 on the NCAA championship website at www.ncaa.com. With the loss, the Tomcats fall to 3-6 overall and 2-5 in the PAC.

Thomas More never trailed in the game as it led 14-0 after one quarter, 35-16 at halftime and 42-16 after three quarters.

Senior running back C.T. Tarrant (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton) scored rushing touchdowns on runs of 10, two, one and 17 yards.  Sophomore running back Hjavier Pitts (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mt. Healthy) scored on a six yard touchdown run and sophomore running back Luke Zajac (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights) scored on a 14-yard run.  Junior quarterback Brenan Kuntz (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) and sophomore wide receiver Logan Winkler (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) connected on three touchdown pass of 72, 64 and 67 yards.  First-year kicker Cole Mathias (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg) was seven-for-seven in point-after-attempts, while first-year kicker Ryan Hans (Fort Thomas, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) was two-for-two in PAT kicks.

Thomas More out-gained Thiel 531 yards (186 rushing, 345 passing) to 407 yards (194 rushing, 213 passing).  The Saints defense forced five Tomcat turnovers and recorded two sacks.

Kuntz finished the game 13-of-23 passing for 345 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Saints' offense.  Winkler led the receiving corps with six catches for 232 and three touchdowns.  Tarrant carried the ball 14 times for 74 yard and four touchdowns, while Pitts had six catches for 60 yards and a touchdown to go with three catches for 81 yards and Zajac finished the game eight carries for 60 yards and touchdown.

Senior linebacker Josh Hunter (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) led the Saints defense with seven tackles (all solo), including two for a loss and forced a fumble.  Junior linebacker Tre' Tunstill (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) finished the game with six tackles (five solo, one assisted), including one tackle for a loss and first-year defensive back Thomas Williams (Oregonia, Ohio/Clinton Massie) had five tackles (two solo, three assisted).
