FROSTBURG, MD. – The William Paterson football team (2-3, 1-3 NJAC) suffered a 23-0 loss at Frostburg State (4-1, 3-1 NJAC) Oct. 8.

After an early fumble gave the Bobcats the ball inside the WP 10-yard line, sophomore running back Jamaal Morant carried for a four-yard touchdown and senior Isaac Robinson kicked the extra point for a 7-0 Frostburg State lead 1:28 into the contest.

An eight-yard touchdown pass from sophomore Connor Cox to junior wide receiver Russell Neverdon was followed by a missed PAT, and the Bobcats were ahead 13-0 with 8:01 remaining in the first quarter.

Freshman linebacker Taheem Jackson (East Orange, N.J./East Orange Campus) ended the next FSU possession with an interception near midfield, but the two teams traded punts until a Thomas Moore pick at the FSU-31 and 33-yard return. Eight plays later, Robinson kicked a 27-yard field goal for a 16-0 score with 9:28 left in the first half.

Morant later added a two-yard scoring run (23-0, 2:22), and an interception at the Pioneers' goal line by senior defensive back Craig Kimbrough (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Catholic) kept the Bobcats off the scoreboard just before halftime.

Back-to-back interceptions marked the start of the fourth quarter, the first by freshman defensive back Ra'Keem Bennett (Linden, N.J./Carteret).

Junior quarterback Isaiah Diaz-Mays (Hoboken, N.J./Union City) finished 5-for-15 for 38 yards and an interception, and junior quarterback James Waldron (Edison, N.J./Edison) finished 8-for-20 for 58 yards and an INT. Junior running back Aqeel Daniels-Lundy (Edison, N.J./Edison) rushed eight times for 29 yards, while sophomore wide receiver Christian Maldonado (Elmwood Park, N.J./Paramus Catholic) caught three passes for 41 yards.

Bennett led all players with 13 tackles (seven solo), adding an interception. Senior defensive back Pat Moran (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) made 12 stops (six solo), and Jackson had 12 tackles (four solo) and an INT. Sophomore defensive back Haneef Jennings (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) and senior linebacker Nick Freeman (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) each tallied 10 stops.

Cox went 21-for-32 for 320 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Morant carried 26 times for 111 yards and two scores, and Neverdon hauled in eight passes for 158 yards and a TD.

Senior defensive lineman J.R. Lowery collected six tackles (2.5 TFL, 1.0 sack) and a fumble recovery for FSU. Senior defensive lineman William Sewell added a forced fumble to his six stops.

The Pioneers will host No. 11/13 Salisbury on Family Day Saturday, Oct. 15, at 1:00 p.m.
