NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – Junior quarterback Anthony DiMarsico (Stony Point, N.Y./Suffern) ran for three touchdowns and threw for another, but William Paterson (2-7, 1-7 NJAC) suffered a 42-30 loss at Christopher Newport (3-6, 3-5 NJAC) Nov. 7.

Senior quarterback Tyler Quigley gave the Captains a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter with his one-yard carry, and classmate Arsaiah Robinson made it a 14-0 edge with a five-yard rush with 8:27 remaining in the first half.

DiMarsico broke the goal line from one yard out, capping a 12-play, 75-scoring drive. Freshman Nick DeAngelis (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) added the extra point and the Pioneers trailed, 14-7, with 3:39 on the clock.

Quigley connected with sophomore Kyree Burton for a seven-yard score 54 seconds before halftime, and CNU carried a 21-7 lead into the break.

The Captains received the kickoff to open the second half, scoring an 11-yard touchdown when Quigley connected with junior tight end Josh Patterson (28-7, 11:49).

A 30-yard DiMarsico completion to junior running back Malcolm Robinson (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) on third-and-six moved the chains, and four plays later DiMarsico broke the goal line with a five-yard run to again make it a two-score game at 28-14 with 9:31 left in the third quarter.

Robinson answered with a four-yard carry (35-14, 4:18), but DiMarsico broke off an 85-yard run 63 seconds before the end of the quarter to make it a 35-21 margin.

Senior linebacker Carlo Caponetta (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) forced a fumble that was recovered by junior defensive back Nick Freeman (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) to end Christopher Newport's next possession, but a WP three-and-out gave the Captains the ball back. Robinson then threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to junior Taylor Loudan and CNU was ahead by a 42-21 count with 11:29 to play.

Robinson hauled in a 48-yard pass from DiMarsico (42-28, 4:23), and the Pioneers threatened again inside the Captains' 30-yard line, but an interception gave CNU the ball at its own one-yard line with 1:21 left. A safety on the next play finished the scoring.

DiMarsico was 19-for-41 for 233 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions under center, and rushed 18 times for 177 yards and three scores. Robinson caught four passes for 110 yards and a TD.

Caponetta had 15 tackles (seven solo, 2.0 TFL) and a forced fumble, while senior linebacker Dennis Goodman (Somerset, N.J./Bishop Ahr) collected nine stops (four solo, 1.0 TFL) and an interception. Sophomore linebacker Charles Faulkner (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) added nine tackles and a pass breakup.

Quigley went 20-for-29 for 314 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for CNU. Junior Daquan Davis carried 28 times for 94 yards, and Loudan caught 12 passes for 179 yards and a score.

Senior linebacker Mic Edwards led the Captains with eight tackles (four solo, 1.0 sack) and two pass breakups.

William Paterson will celebrate Senior Day Saturday, Nov. 14, hosting No. 3/4 Wesley at 1:00 p.m.
