Hendrix' Big Fourth Quarter Sparks 45-27 Win

CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College football team scored the final 21 points in the fourth quarter to defeat Rhodes College 45-27 at Crafton-Faulkner Field at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium Saturday night.

Witht he win, the Warriors improve to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in Southern Athletic Association play. The Lynx fall to 4-4 overall and 2-4 in conference.

Rhodes took a 27-24 lead with 10:02 left in the game after quarterback PJ Settles capped a 10-play, 61-yard drive with a one-yard run into the endzone to start the fourth quarter. Junior Dayton Winn returned the ensuing kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown to give the Warriors the lead back. The touchdown was the second kick return score in Winn's career.

The Lynx turned the ball over on downs on their next possession and the Warriors drove eight plays and 61 yards and scored on a seven yard run by junior quarterback Seth Peters to go up 38-27 with 3:27 left.

On their next drive, Settles was sacked for a loss of 11 yards by Ben Cunningham and Duwan Booker on the first play. Settles then was picked off by freshman Chandler Marquardt who returned the interception 50 yards to make the game 45-27.

Hendrix secured the game with a sack by Jake Falleur and recovery by Stephen Stearman with 1:48 left in the contest.

The Warriors scored on the first possession of the game on a 37-yard pass from Peters to senior Jay Jeffers, who found the endzone for the first time in his career. The Lynx answered with a 23-yard pass from Settles to Brandon Box on their first drive.

Peters found junior Ethan Hoppe for a five-yard score at the 8:44 mark in the first. Peters scored on a 10-yard scramble up the middle to make the game 21-7 with 10:37 left in the second quarter.

The Lynx tied it up on touchdowns on their next two tries. Settles had a three-yard rush and completed a 47-yard pass to Michael Shield.

Warrior kicker Steve Crenshaw hit a 34-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to give the Orange & Black a 24-21 lead.

Hendrix ran 59 plays for 413 yards - an average of 7.0 per play. Rhodes ran 65 plays for 277 yards and a 4.3 average. The Warriors converted 19 first downs to the Lynx 14.

Hendrix Notes
- Saturday's win was the first victory over Rhodes since 1952.
- Hendrix remains in second place in the SAA behind 6-0 Berry.
- Peters was 22-of-26 for 245 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for two scores.
- Winn had his seventh 100-yard rushing game of the year with 122 on 21 carries. The national-leader in all-purpose yards per game, he recorded 235 yards with 94 on more on kick returns and 19 on punt returns.
- Sophomore Ben Luedtke recorded a career-high 10 catches for 95 yards.
- Hoppe had six catches of 95 yards.
- Sophomore linebacker Jake Brantley led the defense with 10 tackles, 1.5 for a loss. He became the Warriors' single-season record holder with 12.0 tackles for loss on the year.
- Sophomore safety Michael Kramer made a career-high eight tackles in his first start.
- Tyler Clifton, a junior defensive end, made seven tackles, one for loss.
- Stearman added six tackles as well.
- Cunningham had 1.5 tackles for loss and Booker and John Donald each had one.
- Junior corner back Shaquille Grant broke up two passes and became the Warriors career leader with 10 passes defended
- Crenshaw was 6-for-6 on extra points and broke his single season school record with 38 on the year.
- Marquardt's interception return for a touchdown was the second in school history.

Rhodes Notes
- Settles was 9-of-16 passing for 147 yards and two touchdowns. He was also the Lynx' leading rushers for 62 yards and two more scores.
- Jonathan Wiener made three catches for 44 yards and had four kick returns for 115 yards.
- Shield had two catches for 68 yards. He also made five tackles on defense.
- Duke Sherrell led Rhodes with nine tackles and a sack.
