LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University football team closed the non-conference portion of the schedule by rolling over Kalamazoo College 45-10 on Saturday night.
A balanced offensive attack amassed over 500 total yards while the defense limited a high-powered offense to just 233 yards. Benedictine set the tone on the opening drive, marching 70 yards on 10 plays after forcing a punt. Quarterback Ryan Sample marched in from eight yards out to open the scoring with 9:16 to play in the opening quarter. After stopping Kalamazoo on fourth down, Joshua Williams used a 35-yard run to set up a 70-yard drive. Williams raced in from seven yards out to make the score 12-0 in the closing minutes of the first.
William scored again early in the second from five yards out. Luke Ludolph helped set up the score with a 47-yard catch and run. Benedictine scored touchdowns on over half of the possessions in the first half, adding a seven-yard Derek Miles run with 7:26 to go in the half as Benedictine led 25-0.
The lone passing touchdown came on the opening drive of the second half, finishing an 11-play drive. Omar Lopez reeled in a 19-yard pass from Sample, furthering the advantage to 32-0. Jarrett Lecas returned to action and returned his second interception of the season for a score with 4:16 to play in the third. Lecas scored on a 29-yard return. Joe Marella finished the scoring in the fourth quarter on a 12-yard scamper.
Three individuals ran for more than 80 yards led by a career best 102 from Miles as Benedictine finished with 277 yards on the ground, scoring five touchdowns. Williams added 85 and Sample 65. Ludolph accumulated 120 yards receiving on four catches as Sample threw for 227 yards. Lecas paced the defense with eight tackles, Micayel McKechnie and Victor Johnson each finished with six.
Benedictine (2-2) opens conference play at home against Wisconsin Lutheran next Saturday afternoon.
