Colby names Conerly assistant coach

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Sean Conerly, who has worked for both Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and Union College, has been named an assistant coach for the Colby College football team.

Conerly, a New Orleans native, was a versatile coach for RPI. He was defensive line coach, special teams coordinator, director of video and football operations, and an admissions associate.
"We are excited to add Sean to the coaching staff. He brings experience from two proud Division III institutions, both as a player and a coach," Colby head coach Jonathan Michaeles said. "He is also a proven recruiter who should transition seamlessly to NESCAC and Colby."

Conerly had three Liberty League All-Conference players in his two years coaching the defensive line with the Engineers. As coach of the special teams, he had a first team All-American kicker.

"I am extremely excited about the opportunity to coach at Colby. This is the realization of a long-standing goal for me," Conerly said. "Coach Michaeles has the program heading in the right direction and I'm honored to be part of that process."
 

Conerly earned a bachelor's degree in applied mathematics (economics minor) from Union College in 2010 and a master's in business administration from Union Graduate College in 2012. As an assistant defensive line coach he helped the Dutchmen earn a co-championship in the Liberty League, and he was promoted to defensive hybrids coach for Union's 2012 season.

The first game of the season will take place at Colby on Saturday, Sept. 26, vs. Trinity College.
