BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Endicott football team set a new program record by placing 38 gridiron student-athletes on the New England Football Conference (NEFC) All-Academic Team, eclipsing last year's mark of 37 honorees. Of Endicott's 38 names, seniors Jake Cox (Wrentham, Mass.), Brett Egizi (Westwood, Mass.), RJ Lynch (Bellingham, Mass.), Mike Marini (Trumbull, Conn.), and Luke Somers (Hampstead, N.H.) end their careers as three-time NEFC All-Academic winners.
Endicott (38) finished second behind 2014 NEFC champion MIT (50) who had the most players placed on the NEFC All-Academic Team. Salve Regina (30), Western New England (29), Nichols(16), Curry (9), Maine Maritime (9), and Coast Guard (8) also had student-athletes recognized by the conference for their academic achievements.
To qualify for the NEFC All-Academic Team, players must have completed at least three semesters at the same institutions and maintained a cumulative 3.0 or better grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). 189 athletes in total from NEFC institutions received the honor, 10 more than was recognized in 2013.
Six of Endicott's nine NEFC All-Conference players, including First Team offensive lineman Marini and tight end Dimitri Skinsacos (Old Orchard Beach, Maine), were among the team's academic award winners. Second Team defensive lineman Craig Anderson (Franklin, Mass.), defensive back Cox, offensive lineman Andrew Edwards (Falmouth, Maine), and quarterback Drew Frenette (New Bedford, Mass.) were also among the academic honorees.
