Buffalo State Pounds Frostburg State, 60-28

More news about: Buffalo State

BUFFALO, NY— Casey Kacz (Amherst/Sweet Home) threw for five touchdowns and ran for two more as Buffalo State (3-4/1-3) blasted visiting Frostburg State (1-5/0-3), 60-28, in an Empire 8 game today at a rainy Coyer Field.

Kacz finished 21 of 30 for 203 yards and rushed for 43 yards on six carries.  Caesarae Lewis (Newbern, AL/Sunshine) led the Bengals receiving corps with eight catches for 86 yards with three touchdowns.  Rich Pete (Utica/TR Proctor) paced the ground game with 83 yards on 11 carries, and freshman Trey Jones (Rochester/Greece-Athena) added 82 yards and a score on eight fourth-quarter carries.

Teron Tyre and Nick Rosati shared the quarterback responsibilities for the Bobcats.  Tyre was 15 of 32 for 238 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, and Rosati finished 5 of 13 for 62 yards with a pick and a score.  Antonio Wood hauled in six catches for 133 yards with two scores, and Haydan Roberts also had six grabs for 103 yards.

Buffalo State forced three first-half turnovers that set up three touchdown drives and the Bengals took a 29-14 lead into halftime.

Kacz opened the scoring for the Bengals with a 15-yard run, before Frostburg answered with a 27-yard touchdown catch by Zach Tuckmantel from Rosati to even the score at 7-7 just over three minutes later.

A Shaq Frederick (Brooklyn/Holy Cross) interception and a forced fumble by John Alessandra (Tonawanda/Kenmore East) recovered by Tawone Williams (Cicero/CNS) set up back-to-back touchdown grabs from Lewis, covering 5 and 19 yards respectively.  Then a Marquis Artis (Amherst/Amherst) interception set the stage for a 9-yard scoring catch by Mike Doherty (Tonawanda/Kenmore East) and the rout was on, despite Frostburg's 29-yard touchdown grab by Wood in the closing seconds of the opening half.

The Bengals opened the scoring in the second half with a 10-yard touchdown reception by Billy Joiner (Rochester/John Marshall) for his first collegiate touchdown to push the lead to 36-14.

After Woods' second score of the game from 8 yards, Kacz found the end zone on a 5-yard run and Lewis completed his "hat trick" with a 7-yard grab in the back of the end zone to push the score to 50-21 at the end of the third quarter.

In the final frame, Alex Debbins (Lancaster/Lancaster) booted a 21-yard field goal, before Frostburg and Buffalo State traded touchdown runs to close the scoring.  Tyre went 16 yards on a quarterback keeper, before Jones finished the scoring for the Bengals with a 23-yard scamper with 15 seconds remaining.

Buffalo State will play on the road each of the next two weeks, beginning with a trip to Utica for a 2 p.m. kickoff next Saturday.
