Wrapup: Late heroics, gutsy calls

More news about: Gettysburg | Salve Regina

Phil Terio had a game-sealing interception in the red zone and also added a 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown as Salve Regina remained unbeaten, defeating Curry 37-33.

Terio, who set the record for interception returns for touchdowns a week ago, didn't need to return this one at all, as it ended an 11-play drive at the Salve Regina 7-yard line with 15 seconds left in the game.

Muhlenberg lined up for a game-tying field goal but came away with a game-winning touchdown as the Mules handed Gettysburg its first loss, 35-31. Joe Carlucci threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Ian Gimbar on a fake field goal with 2:32 left -- the second fake field goal of the quarter in a wild contest.

Waynesburg remained undefeated, topping 1-5 Bethany 23-21. Alex Henry provided the winning margin with a 26-yard field goal with 16 seconds left as Waynesburg had to rally from a 21-7 deficit. Coe also remained perfect, defeating Dubuque 41-38 in overtime. Willamette improved to 6-0 with a 56-20 win against Lewis and Clark.

Sul Ross State and Texas Lutheran combined for 1,333 yards of total offense and fell three points short of the D-III record for most points in the game as the Lobos won 70-65. Concordia-Chicago and Concordia (Wis.) went for 1,199 yards combined as the River Forest, Ill., Concordia won 47-44 in overtime.

Jory Tanner threw for 313 yards and three touchdowns as Morrisville State got its first win of the season and continued Western Connecticut's long losing streak. Emmanuel Johnson scored the game-winning touchdown with 36 seconds left to send the Colonials to their 27th loss in a row.

Washington and Jefferson got Tim McNerney his win, defeating Westminster (Pa.) 24-21. Dion Wiegand gutted out 79 yards on 26 carries and 79 more yards on six receptions for the Presidents, while Matt Bliss was 25-for-44 passing for 312 yards and a score.

The video at right is likely what people will be talking about this week. Watch Wittenberg receiver Desi Kirkman do a flip over a defender into the end zone in the Tigers' 41-17 win against Chicago.

Jerise Washington set Augsburg school records for rushing yardage and touchdowns in a game, scoring four TDs and rushing for 245 yards as the Auggies claimed a 45-37 victory over St. Olaf to improve to 5-1.

Hamilton got coach Andrew Cohen his first win, defeating Bowdoin 14-13. Washington and Lee rolled over Randolph-Macon 49-14 in a battle of ODAC co-leaders. Luke Heinsohn had 125 yards on 14 carries but it was Sasha Vandalov who had the biggest run for the Generals, going 86 yards for a touchdown as part of a 199-yard day.

Concordia-Moorhead took out its frustrations from last week's finish on Hamline, crushing the Pipers 63-14. St. Norbert kept pace in the Midwest Conference with a 79-7 shellacking of Lawrence. Lake Forest remained atop the league, beating Monmouth 28-24 on the road.

Nichols snapped a 17-game losing streak, defeating Mass-Dartmouth 26-16 behind three interceptions by Wesley Williams. Gallaudet was outscored 34-7 over the final 39 minutes as visiting Norwich withstood a 17-0 start by the Bison to come back and win, 34-24.

Colin Hartford intercepted a potential game-tying two-point conversion with 37 seconds left and Allegheny held on to defeat DePauw 22-20. Mike Hermann threw three touchdown passes to Reggie Colas and Dustin Schuld returned an interception 65 yards for another score as visiting RPI defeated Rochester 31-21.

Four teams are tied for first in the USA South, including LaGrange, which scored a surprising 20-6 win at Christopher Newport. The loss snapped a 14-game conference winning streak for the Captains. Ferrum put together 585 yards of total offense and picked off North Carolina Wesleyan four times in a 51-35 win.
