    The Utica College football team kicked off its 2017 season with an impressive 20-7 victory over visiting St. Lawrence University on Saturday night at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. Utica did not trail the entire contest, holding the Saint scoreless for the first 53:43 of the game. Senior running back Nicodemus Gambill (Rochester, NY/East High) sparked the Pioneer offense with a career-high 161 yards rushing on just 16 carries and he also added two rushing touchdowns of 59 and 39 yards.

    The Utica College football team outscored host Hartwick College 27-9 in the second half to rally for a 52-40 victory over the Hawks in the regular season finale for both teams Saturday at Wright Stadium. The Pioneers have now won seven games for just the second time in program-history and will await a possible berth into next weekend's ECAC Bowl games. The ECAC Bowl game selections will take place on Monday.

    The Utica College football team defeated visiting Morrisville State 38-14 in the Empire 8 Conference opener for both squads on Saturday night at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. Utica quarterback Teddy VanGalen (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) completed 25 passes for a career-high 313 yards and two touchdowns as the Pioneers compiled 526 yards of total offense on the afternoon. The UC defense also forced a safety and scored a defensive touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the home team.

Utica junior defensive end Nick Woodman (Utica, NY/Proctor) had a banner day, tying the school-record with 3.0 sacks, and he also added seven tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
