Kent Crowley scored on a 4-yard touchdown run less than three minutes into the game, en route to a career-high in rushing yards.

NORTHFIELD, Minn. — Macalester’s Matt Munson rushed for 166 yards, 132 in the second half, as the visiting Scots scored 26 unanswered points to beat Carleton 33-16.

The Knights (0-10) were paced Erik Fisher’s career-best 118 yards rushing. He tallied 90 yards alone in the first quarter, the majority coming on a 43-yard run, as he burst off the left side of the line, bounced outside and was gone for the touchdown, the longest of his career. It marked his second consecutive game of more than 100 yards rushing.

A Pat Barry 32-yard field goal and a 72-yard pass from Ben Cooprider to Ernie Asp gave Carleton its largest lead of the game, 16-7, midway through the second quarter. The field goal was Carleton’s first successful field goal since James Adducci kicked two in the 1999 season finale against Bethel, a span of 29 games. Asp’s catch, Carleton’s longest play from scrimmage this year, was his first career touchdown.

Macalester (5-5) began its comeback with a 36-yard touchdown pass from Adam Denny to Adam Johnson, as Johnson leaped over a Carleton defensive back to snare the ball for his fourth touchdown of the year. Following Carleton’s second turnover of the game, Andrew Connet booted a 26-yard field goal with 5:08 left in the half to give the Scots the lead for good. Denny capped a 12-play, 79-yard drive with a 1-yard sneak to give the Scots a 23-16 halftime advantage.

The final 30 minutes was all Scots. The visitors held the ball for 21:23, as they rushed 30 times for 133 yards.

Three lost fumbles doomed the Knights, including one on Carleton’s first possession of the game, as a fumbled punt return at the Macalester 10-yard line resulted in the Scots getting excellent field position. The Knights’ defense held, forcing a field-goal attempt. The Scots faked, however, and holder and former quarterback Adam Heathcote found Nick Kraemer all alone in the end zone for the opening score.

Cooprider finished 18-for-38 for 192 yards and one score. Carleton’s defense was paced by Luke Muellerleile with 13 stops and Nick Brokke with 12, nine solo, and four passes broken up. Justin Merriman added 12 tackles and an interception. Adam Witt posted another fine game, tallying 11 tackles, four for losses, with one sack.

Denny was 15-for-36 for 187 yards and one touchdown, with 10 of his passes going to Johnson for 128 yards. All-American defensive end Andrew Porter paced the Scots defense with 10 tackles, eight solo, and a forced fumble and a sack, giving him 15 for the season.
