Football lost at Washington

More news about: Berry

St. Louis, Mo.– Washington (Mo.) University ran for a season-high 276 yards in a 44-7 win over Berry College Saturday.

The Bears picked up its second-straight victory to improve its overall record to 3-2, while Berry fell to 1-4.

The first-year Vikings had some strong moments. Berry held an opponent scoreless in the first quarter for the first time. Quarterback Dale Jackson was 9-15 for 113 yards and no interceptions for the visitors. In the fourth quarter, he connected with Will Chomskis on a 17-yard strike for BC's lone touchdown.

"We knew this was going to be a tough three-game stretch on the road," said Head Coach Tony Kunczewski . "We will continue to learn from our mistakes and build from the positives. There were some positives out there today. We have to learn to make plays when the opportunities present themselves. We were a play away from going in down 9-0 at the half. We will get better next week."

Jonathan Lewis carried 12 times for 51 yards to lead BC runners. Chomskis had 48 receiving yards on two receptions. Mitchell Blanchard punted six time for 236 yards (39.3 average). He placed two kicks inside the 20-yard line and had a long punt of 52 yards.

For the Berry defense, Anthony Batey continued his strong play. He made a team-best eight tackles with six solo stops. Bradley Brown had four tackles and an interception he returned for nine yards.

After a scoreless first quarter, Washington U. put together a 14-play, 98-yard drive early in the second quarter to get on the scoreboard first. Quarterback Eric Daginella found tight end Max Elliott across the middle for a 13-yard TD to make it 7-0.

A 42-yard punt by sophomore Alec Stanke pinned Berry on its five-yard line, and two plays later freshman defensive lineman Josiah Situmeang recorded a safety after tackling Jonathan Lewis in the end zone.

ZachDaginella orchestrated a 14-play, 65-yard drive that resulted in a three-yard TD run by Ratermann to make it 16-0 just before half.

Washington University scored the next 28 points before the Chomskis TD. Washington U. had a 508-149 advantage in total offense and had a 40:03-19:57 advantage in time of possession

Lonneman ran for a career-high 148 yards on 23 carries for Wash U. Daginella was 14-of-245 for 127 yards and two touchdowns, while J.J Tomlin was 7-for-7 for 92 yards and two TD.

Berry hosts Centre College next Saturday. Kickoff is 1 p.m. at the Darlington School.
