Hamilton College Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty Patrick Reynolds has appointed Director of Athletics Jon Hind '80 as interim director of football.

The College anticipates the appointment will extend through the 2014 football season while the leadership needs of the football program are assessed. Hind will retain his responsibilities as athletics director and professor of physical education. The appointment follows the resignation of Andrew Cohen on February 1.

Hind was an offensive lineman for the Continentals as a player and coached the running backs in 1985. He subsequently served as an assistant football coach at the College of Wooster from 1986 to 1990 and was the team's offensive coordinator during each of those last two seasons.

Hind was Wooster's head men's lacrosse coach from 1987 to 1991 and he went on to become Butler University's first men's lacrosse coach in 1993. Butler enjoyed six winning seasons in seven years, and Hind was selected the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division I Coach of the Year after he guided the Bulldogs to the NCAA championship tournament in 1998.

Reynolds thanked Cohen for his contributions to the football program, and expressed appreciation to Hind and the continuing members of the football coaching staff for their ongoing commitment to the program, student-athletes and Hamilton athletics.

"Jon Hind is a master motivator who gets the most from his staff and his players," Reynolds said. "He is a passionate and skilled educator who has been successful at every step in his career as a player, coach and administrator. I have full confidence in his ability to lead Hamilton's football program during this interim period."
