More news about: Franklin

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College football team will once again play one of the nation's most challenging non-conference schedules, with games against defending NCAA Division III national champion University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and playoff participant Illinois Wesleyan University filling the first two weeks of the upcoming 2014 season.

The Grizzlies are coming off an eight-win campaign, a second-round playoff appearance and No. 20 final national ranking in 2013. The team has won a playoff game during each of the past three seasons. Franklin also became the first team in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) history to win four consecutive football championships.

The 2014 season opens on September 6 at Illinois Wesleyan, a team that had a 9-2 record last fall and was ranked No. 24 in the 2013 final rankings. The Titans participated in the NCAA Division III playoffs.

The home opener will have Wisconsin-Whitewater coming to Faught Stadium on September 13. The Warhawks capped an undefeated 2013 season by winning their fifth Division III national championship in the past seven seasons. The game will be a rematch of last season's second-round playoff game between the two programs.

Other home games will come against Bluffton University on September 27, Earlham College on October 11 (homecoming), Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on October 25 and Hanover College on November 15 (Victory Bell Classic).
