WPI's Grupp Adds D3football.com All-East Team Honor to Resume

Minneapolis, MN --- WPI offensive lineman Tim Grupp (Highland Mills, NY) has been selected to the D3football.com All-East team in balloting by East Region sports information directors and D3football.com staff.  Grupp, a third team tackle, is the first Engineer selected to the since Ernie Mello and John Perron received the accolade in 2011.  

Grupp was picked from 284 nominations by Division III member schools. A total of 77 players were tabbed to the three teams and will now be under consideration for All-America status.  He  one of 11 student-athletes selected from the Liberty League and was joined locally by Casey Hippert (Douglas, MA) of Worcester State.

Grupp, a four-year starter, was the left tackle and co-captain in 2013.  He was named the Robert Pritchard Award winner as the top lineman on Homecoming earlier this season, and was also a nominee for the 2013 National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athlete Award and William V. Campbell Trophy.

It has been a busy month on the award circuit for the first All-Liberty League and Worcester Area selection.  He was also tabbed as a Capital One/CoSIDA Division III District 1 All-Academic first team selection and won the prestigious Nils V. "Swede" Nelson Award for exceptional achievement in sportsmanship, academics, and athletics from the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston.

WPI recently completed the 2013 season with a 3-7 record that included its third Transit Trophy win over Rensselaer in the last four years and a victory over Rochester.
