GAITHERSBURG, Md. (November 18, 2013) – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference announced its weekly awards for the 11th week of the season, and for the fifth time this season the Privateers were awarded with the ECFC Rookie of the Week as punter John Arny (Metuchen, N.J., Metuchen) was selected.
This is the second time Arny was selected for an ECFC award as he was selected as the league's top special teamer on September 23.
Arny helped play a big role in special teams as the Privateers defeated No. 25 Gallaudet on Saturday by the score of 7-6 on Saturday afternoon. He collected 153 yards on four boots for Maritime including a 52-yard kick for his second longest of the season.
At the end of the third quarter with the Privateers looking to hold onto its lead, Arny pinned the Bison at their own 21 yard line with a 52-yard punt which eventually resulted in a 3-and-out for the Bison. His final punt on the next possession was pinned back at the Bison 10-yard line for his 11th punt inside opponents' 20-yard lines this season.
Maritime finished the season with a 5-5 record overall and a 5-2 mark in ECFC play this season and will look to build on its late-season success for the 2014 season. Next season's first game is tentatively set for September 4, 2013 at home against William Paterson.
