CONWAY, Ark. (Nov. 16, 2013) – Led by senior quarterback Curtis Johnson, the Sewanee football team rushed past Southern Athletic Association (SAA) foe Hendrix, 35-9, Saturday at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium.

Johnson capped off his outstanding career by rushing for a career-high 159 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries.

The victory closed out the 2013 season for the Tigers. Sewanee finished 4-6 overall and 3-3 in league play. Hendrix dropped to 3-7 overall and 1-5 in SAA competition.

On the first play from scrimmage, Johnson took off for a 28-yard gain. Five plays later, the Atlanta, Ga., native capped off the drive with a two-yard TD run.

After stopping Hendrix for the second time on a fourth down attempt, Sewanee looked to extend its lead.

The big play on the ensuing drive came on second and four, as Johnson completed a 31-yard pass toCody Daniel.

Two plays later senior fullback Andrew Keenan found the end zone from six-yards out, which pushed the lead to 13-0.

Sophomore kicker Callum Wishart had his extra point attempt blocked, which maintained the score.

On the Tigers' next drive, Wishart extended the lead to 16-0, with a 24-yard field goal.

Sewanee continued to play well when Grant Fuller stopped a fourth-and-three attempt by Hendrix on the Warrior 48-yard line.

On the ensuing drive, Sewanee scored again when junior Barrett Goodson rushed into the end zone from 11-yards out.

Unfortunately, the extra point attempt was again blocked. This time, Hendrix's Thomas Weissert picked up the block and raced 98-yards for a defensive PAT.

Hendrix finally scored its first offensive touchdown, when Dayton Winn scored from one-yard out with 12:50 left in the third quarter.

After an interception by David Garcia put the Tigers in business at their own 49-yard line, Sewanee scored two plays later when Cortez Brown rushed in from six yards.

Sewanee would add one final touchdown, as Daniel capped off an 11-play, 63-yard drive with an 18-yard scamper late in the fourth quarter.

Overall, the Tigers dominated the ground game with a season-high 408 rushing yards. The Tigers limited Hendrix to 171 yards of total offense. Sewanee also held Hendrix to an 0-for-6 effort on fourth down.

Joining Johnson individually was Daniel, who finished with 181 yards of total offense and a touchdown. Additionally, five Tigers rushed for more than 20 yards.

On defense, linebackers John Paul McDonnellDave McKeithen, and defensive back Alex Kops led Sewanee with seven stops.

Kops and McKeithen also finished with two tackles for a loss and a pass breakup.

Wishart closed out his first season as the Tigers' kicker by scoring 50 points and making 8-out-10 field goal attempts. Additionally, he was 26-for-28 in PAT attempts.
