Warrington, Brunk Selected to Capital One Academic All-District Team
THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (November 11, 2013) – After composing solid seasons on the field to this point in the season, and putting together successful grades in the classroom a pair of members of the Privateer football team were selected to the Capital One Academic All-District Team for District III, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Maritime sophomores Beau Warrington (Milford, Del./Sussex Technical) and Michael Brunk (Hidden Valley Lake, Calif./Glenwood Springs (Colo.)) were the two of the 21 recipients of the honors for the Division III branch of District III. There are eight districts that comprise the geographical United States; each district is then broken down into Division I, II and III for each NCAA Division.
As selections for District III, Warrington and Brunk are now eligible to the Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this season.
Warrington has started in all nine of Maritime's games this season, helping the defense towards the top of the NCAA in many defensive categories amongst Division III schools. He has amassed 30 tackles to average over three tackles per game and also has an interception return for a touchdown, while breaking up a pair of passes. Off the field, he has a 3.79 GPA in the classroom and was elected to the Football Leadership Counsel and also serves on Maritime's SGA Intercollegiate Athletic Board and is one of the team's SAAC representatives.
Brunk has seen action in eight of the team's nine games this season. He has picked up over two tackles per game this season as well as one sack for a loss for seven yards while playing in a reserve role this year. In the classroom, Brunk has a 3.37 GPA while majoring in Marine Operations at Maritime, and has been a member of the school's Academic Dean's list in both the Fall of 2012 and the Spring of 2013.
Warrington and Brunk were two of just five ECFC players selected to the Academic All-District Teams. Gallaudet had two members selected to the District II squad, while Castleton State had one player selected to District I.
Warrington, Brunk and the Maritime football squad will wrap up its 2013 season this Saturday at home when the unit takes on Gallaudet at 1 p.m. on Reinhart Field. Coverage of the game will begin approximately 10 minutes prior to kickoff on the Privateer Radio Network.
