HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College senior Jared Shope (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) was named to the Capital One Academic All-District football team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.  Shope was one of 11 Centennial Conference student-athletes to earn first team honors.

A 2013 captain, Shope was second team all-conference last season.  He has started every game this year and is second on the team in sacks.  The defensive lineman was also a Campbell Award semifinalist.  He will graduate with a degree in accounting this spring.

CoSIDA describes the Academic All-America program as a means to "recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom." All first team selections are eligible to become Academic All-Americans.  Juniata has not had an Academic All-American since 2004.
