The Albright College football team won its third straight game on Saturday, with a 30-12 Homecoming victory over Wilkes University.
Senior Devron Clark caught nine passes for 193 yards, while classmate Daniel McNair totaled five catches, 86 yards and two touchdowns. Senior quarterback TJ Luddy had his third straight big game with 343 yards on 23-of-36 passes, with three TDs and no interceptions.
Luddy also had a fantastic day punting, putting all four of his kicks inside the 20. He averaged 44.5 yards despite one pooch kick, and uncorked a 61-yarder in the first half.
Defensively, the secondary had a big day with Matthew Hnatiuk (13) and Levi Myers (10) turning in double-digit tackles. Senior Drew Peterson intercepted his sixth pass of the season.
Mason Smith took the opening kick 96 yards for Wilkes, and Patrick Ingulli punched it in on the first play from scrimmage for a 6-0 Wilkes lead.
Luddy's 61 yard punt was followed by a Lion stop to give Albright good field position. Clark broke a 45-yard catch, but Daniel Sobolewski's 28-yard field goal missed wide left.
Paul Hobbs stopped a Wilkes drive with a tackle for loss at the end of the first quarter, and Myers blew up David Claybrook's reverse for a six-yard loss in the second quarter.
Ty Hughes finally got the Lion offense going by taking the entire Wilkes defense for a ride down to the five-yard line; that 16 yard rush set up Eric Wade's TD catch on the next play.
Wilkes was driving late in the first half, but Peterson came up with his sixth interception of the season in the final minute. Luddy found McNair for 23 yards across midfield, and then hit Vinny Williams down to the 14-yard line to set up Sobolewski's 31-yard field goal with one second remaining before halftime.
In the third quarter, Luddy found McNair for 22 yards, and then again in the end zone for a 16-6 lead.
Wilkes scored late in the third quarter, but Donny Guido blocked the PAT attempt. Luddy hit McNair with a great throw to make it 23-12 Lions.
Matt Filosa (11 tackles) had a sack deep in the Wilkes territory in the fourth quarter, and Ethan Martin blocked the punt to set up Albright's final score, a three-yard rush by Hughes.
Ingulli totaled 127 yards on 34 carries for the Colonels. Cornerback Omar Richardson had two sacks, a forced fumble, and eight total tackles.
Albright improves to 4-2, 3-2 MAC and faces a big test next Saturday at Lycoming. Wilkes falls to 2-4, 1-4.
