Manchester University continues brief road swing with Earlham trip

Spartan Shorts: With four games remaining on the 2013 schedule, the Black and Gold is tied for sixth in the conference with Bluffton University of Ohio, just a half-game behind Hanover College for fifth. Rose-Hulman and Franklin go into the weekend as the lone remaining league unbeatens … Freshman wide receiver Dakota Nelson (Fairfield, Ind.) and the Black and Gold earned an honor from the HCAC Oct. 16. His touchdown reception at Defiance during a 27-12 loss Oct. 12 was tabbed the league's Play of the Week with a record 7.224 votes. Junior running back Austin Adams (Dowagiac, Mich.) and senior linebacker Dylin Kennedy (North Manchester, Ind.) are in the league's top five statistically. Adams' three rushing touchdowns are tied for third, while Kennedy's 9.3 tackles per game are fifth-best … Kennedy's 7.2 solo tackles per game average is among the NCAA Division III top 20. He ranks No. 17. Nelson is also in the top 40 in punt returns (11.1 yards per return – No. 35), while the team is No. 12 in fewest penalties per contest (3.67), No. 24 in punt return yards (14.17 pg), No. 36 in fewest penalty yards per game (42.33) and No. 38 in interceptions (eight).
