ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Adrian running back Damon Brown, Trine defensive back Tyler Guzy and Hope punter Dean DeVries its Players of the Week in football for games played through Sept. 28.
Offensive Player of the Week
Brown, a senior from Troy (Troy HS), rushed for 156 yards on 19 carries and scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 28-yard run in the third quarter as Adrian rallied to post a 28-14 victory over Carthage, Wis. Brown is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
Defensive Player of the Week
Guzy, a junior from Coldwater (Coldwater HS), intercepted two passes and made seven tackles from his secondary position, including one tackle for loss, in Trine’s 24-21 loss against NCAA Division II member St. Joseph’s, Ind. Guzy leads all MIAA players in interceptions with five heading into the start of conference play this week. He is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
Special Teams Player of the Week
DeVries, a sophomore from Grand Rapids (Grandville HS), averaged 47.4 yards on five punts, including a long punt of 53 yards and one punt downed inside the opponents’ 5-yard-line, in Hope’s 14-7 loss to Illinois Wesleyan. He is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
