HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College football senior Brandon Felus (Columbia, Pa./Columbia) was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week and was selected the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South West Defensive Player of the Week, the organizations recently announced. Felus helped lead the Eagles to a 38-16 upset of Centennial Conference rival Gettysburg College. The win marked the first time since 1976 that Juniata had defeated the Bullets in Huntingdon.
"Brandon earns recognition because he practices, prepares and trains to be the best," said Eagle head coach Tim Launtz. "What it takes to be a dominant college football player, Brandon does. His play is highlighted by his tremendous amount of character, confidence, mental and physical toughness. He is driven to be the best, and his play and leadership demonstrates he is all in for the collective success of the team and his teammates."
This is the second ECAC honor of Felus' career and his first from D3football.com. A 2013 captain, Felus recorded five tackles, all solo, including two sacks and a tackle for a loss of eight yards. His second sack of the Bullets quarterback caused a fumble and he blocked his second field goal of the season in the win.
The defensive tackle has been one of the driving forces of an Eagle defense that has held opponents to under 17 points per game. Juniata (3-0) is preparing to take on Franklin & Marshall next this Saturday, Sept. 28. The teams kick off at 1 p.m. on Sponaugle-Williamson Field in Lancaster, Pa.
