Kalamazoo’s Danzy, Trine’s Combs, Hope’s Finch Named MIAA Players of the Week in Football
ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Kalamazoo quarterback Justin Danzy, Trine defensive back Blaek Combs and Hope placekicker Evan Finch its Players of the Week in football for games played through Sept. 14.
Offensive Player of the Week
Danzy, a sophomore from Southfield (Southfield HS), accounted for 361 yards total offense in leading the Hornets to a 31-21 victory over Manchester, Ind. He completed 28 of 42 passes for 311 yards and three touchdowns, and added 50 yards rushing on 14 carries. Danzy is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
Defensive Player of the Week
Combs, a senior from Rushville, Ind. (Rushville HS), made 11 tackles, including eight solo stops, forced a fumble, had one tackle for loss and intercepted a pass that led to the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter of Trine’s 16-7 victory over nationally-ranked Elmhurst, Ill. Combs is being honored as Player of the Week for the fourth time in his career.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Finch, a senior from Ann Arbor (Pioneer HS), booted field goals of 28 and 24 yards and added five extra points in Hope’s 41-7 victory over Millikin, Ill. He has made eight consecutive field goals since the start of last season. Finch is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
