Stanek, Focosi, Cote named CCIW Football Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – North Central's Spencer Stanek and John Focosi, along with Wheaton's Sam Cote were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Players of the Week Monday.

Stanek, a senior quarterback from Mokena, Illinois and Lincoln-Way East High School (Economics/Finance major), helped lead North Central to a school-record 674 yards of total offense during a 41-24 win at Wisconsin-La Crosse on Saturday. He was 26-of-35 for 330 yards and a touchdown while also leading the team in rushing with 106 yards on 15 carries and two scores. Stanek moved into third place in North Central history for career passing yards (4,384) while also leading the Cardinals with 436 yards of offense.

Focosi, a senior defensive lineman from South Barrington, Illinois and Barrington High School (Economics/Finance major), led North Central with three tackles-for-loss and two sacks at Wisconsin-La Crosse on Saturday. Both sacks led directly to Eagles' punts on the next play.  

Cote, a junior punter/placekicker from Wheaton, Illinois and Wheaton Academy (Applied Health Science major), was 9-for-9 on PATs and 1-for-1 on field goals with a long of 44 yards during a 66-0 shutout of Albion on Saturday. He also had four punts for 135 yards (33.8 yard average) with a long of 37 yards. His 44-yard field goal gave Wheaton a 10-0 lead early in the first quarter.

The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) was founded in 1946 and currently services eight member institutions including Augustana College (Rock Island, IL), Carthage College (Kenosha, WI), Elmhurst College (Elmhurst, IL), Illinois Wesleyan University (Bloomington, IL), Millikin University (Decatur, IL), North Central College (Naperville, IL), North Park University (Chicago, IL) and Wheaton College (Wheaton, IL). During the 2012-13 academic year, the CCIW honored over 1,400 academic all-conference recipients, 15 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-Americans, 30 CoSIDA Academic All-District recipients, 68 all-Americans and one national championship team.
