Gannon Earns ECFC Rookie of the Week Honors
THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (September 16, 2013) – With a pair of interceptions and six tackles recorded in the second week of the season, Maritime freshman Francis Gannon was named the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon.
The two interceptions came at a crucial time for the Privateers defensively as the Buccaneers were threatening in the red zone. The pair of picks also tied a Maritime single-game record, done just three times previously in the history of the program, most recently in 2010.
Gannon's six tackles were also tied for third on the team against Mass. Maritime, while one of his tackles was also for a loss in yardage. The freshman was part of a defense that allowed just 24 points on Thursday's game, third best amongst ECFC teams during the second week of the season
This weekend the Privateers take on cross-sound rival Kings Point as the rivalry is renewed between the two teams. Saturday's contest also marks Homecoming for the 2013 season, with kickoff against the Mariners slated for 2 p.m. and homecoming festivities taking place throughout the day on campus.
