WPI's Lynch Tackles Liberty League Football Rookie of the Week Honors
Troy, NY --- Freshman Kevin Lynch (East Bridgewater, MA) has been selected as the Liberty League Football Rookie of the Week for games played September 13 and 14, 2013. It is the programs first weekly rookie nod since Elante Moore shared accolades for the week ending September 13, 2009.
Lynch, who was also named to the NoontimeSports.com Honor Roll, stood out with a team-best 10 tackles - eight solo—with one for a two yard loss and two pass breakups in Friday night's 15-14 setback to Worcester State. He also blocked a key punt, which led to a safety, to give the Engineers a 14-9 advantage in the third quarter.
Sophomore Matthew McDaniels (Malverne, NY) from Merchant Marine garnered Offensive Performer of the Week honors while junior Danny Macalena (Congers, NY) from Springfield took home Defensive Performer of the Week laurels. RPI junior Andrew Franks (Carmel, CA) picked up Special Teams Performer of the Week and senior Matthew Morse (Covington, LA) from Merchant Marine was named to the honor roll.
WPI (1-1) welcomes Norwich to Alumni Field on Saturday at 1pm. Halftime festivities include a celebration of the undefeated untied 1983 team.
