Oberlin, Ohio – The 2013 schedule for the Oberlin College football team is unique in a variety of ways. There are no byes, nine North Coast Athletic Conference games and a season-opener that is set for Sunday, September 15.
 
'When you take a look at the schedule as a whole, it is certainly different than what we have been accustomed to in the past," Head Coach Jeff Ramsey said. "We are starting a week later than usual and then have 10 straight games. It certainly presents some challenges, but we will make it work."
 
With the NCAC-UAA agreement now expired, the Yeomen have just one non-league game, which will come on Sunday, September 15 against local rival Case Western University. While most teams across the country open the season a weekend prior, the Yeomen's match-up with the Spartans will also mark their first game of the season. The game is being contested on Sunday instead of Saturday in observation of Yom Kippur. Last the season the Spartans outlasted the Yeomen 24-17 in overtime at Savage Stadium.
 
After the home opener, the Yeomen will take to the road, first traveling to the College of Wooster (Sept. 21/1 p.m.) on a short week, before heading to NCAC power Wittenberg the following Saturday (Sept. 28) for its lone night game of the year with kickoff slated for 6 p.m. The Yeomen and Scots last met on September 17, 2011 with Wooster coming out on top 14-3. In the season finale last season, the Tigers bested the Yeomen 47-20, but then freshman quarterback Lucas Poggiali threw for 232 yards and two scores on 18-of-27 passing in the second half. The second-year standout from Sandusky, Ohio, comes into this season as the Yeomen's projected starter.
 
Oberlin returns home to take on Kenyon College on October 5 as part of Homecoming Weekend for the athletics department. The Yeomen will look to avenge last season's 30-13 loss to the Lords. In 2011 Oberlin blanked Kenyon 42-0.
 
The following weekend (Oct. 12/1 p.m.) the Yeomen embark on their longest road trip of the season as they travel west to Indiana to take on DePauw University for the first time since it joined the North Coast Athletic Conference. It will be just the 15th meeting all-time between the two schools, with the last match-up coming 30 years ago in 1983.
 
Three out of the final five games will be at home for the Yeomen. Allegheny College comes to town on October 19, while Wabash College invades Savage Stadium on the 26th of October. Last fall the Yeomen knocked off then 10th ranked Wabash 31-16 on the road.
 
OC starts the month of November with road games at Denison (Nov. 2/2 p.m.) and Ohio Wesleyan (Nov. 9, 1 p.m.) The Yeomen will look for a repeat performance against the Big Red from last season as they came away with a 30-13 win.
 
The season finale is slated for November 16 when the Yeomen host the Terriers of Hiram College.  Oberlin shutout Hiram 39-0 a season ago in a game in which the Yeomen rushed for a total of 180 yards.
 
"This schedule is certainly going to be grind on our players and our staff," Ramsey added. "There are no easy games on there and we will need be ready to go every week in order to be successful. I look forward to challenge ahead."
 
Ramsey, who enters his 15th season as the Yeomen's head coach, led Oberlin to a 4-6 record in 2012, which included a 3-4 mark in the NCAC.
