More news about: Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College head football coach Chris Rusiewicz announced the intention of six more incoming students to play football for the Quakers Monday. The students have made their deposits to the college and will enroll for classes beginning in August. The announcement raises Rusiewicz's third recruiting class at Guilford to 12 students.

Joshua Allen (Charlotte, N.C.) lettered two years at Ardrey Kell High School under coach Adam Hastings. Allen also lettered in track and was involved with the school's debate team and chess club. The 5-10, 170-pound defensive back intends to study psychology at Guilford.

Johnathan Chandler (Richfield, N.C.) lettered two seasons at North Stanly High School for coach Ralph Jackson. The 6-1, 190-pound linebacker was named team captain his senior year and served as the Comets' long snapper. He earned a defensive player of the week honor and also received the team's Iron Comet Award. He also competed four seasons on the school's Marksmanship Team and has coached in the North Stanly Youth League Football program.

Kevin Mangel (Chapel Hill, N.C.) lettered three years at East Chapel Hill High School for coach William Renner. The 6-3, 230-pound defensive lineman earned All-Piedmont Athletic Conference 6 Defensive Honors twice. In the 2012 season he had 69 tackles, with one blocked punt and a fumble recovery. Mangel was an East Chapel Hill defensive captain for the 2012 season.

Stuart Mains (Mechanicsville, Va.) lettered three years at Hanover High School for coach Joshua Just. The 5-10, 225-pound defensive lineman was a two-time All-Capital District selection and earned honorable mention recognition as a sophomore. Mitchell helped lead Hanover to three Central Region titles and three state semifinal appearances. He intends to study chemistry at Guilford.

Devin Mason (China Grove, N.C.) played for coach Jason Rollins at South Rowan High School. The 6-2, 225-pound defensive end led the team in tackles with 80. His brother, Cadarreus Mason, plays football at UNC Pembroke. Mason intends to study sport management at Guilford.

Andrew Millsaps (Pilot Mountain, N.C.) lettered two years for coach David Diamont at East Surry High School. The 6-2, 300-pound offensive lineman was named to the All-Northwest 1A/2A Conference Team. Millsaps intends to study business at Guilford.

Guilford opens the 2013 season Sept. 7 against Greensboro College in the Gate City Soup Bowl at 1:00 p.m.
