Former Wolverine Chris Mayes Picked Up by IFL’s Colorado Ice
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Former Wesley College football player Chris Mayes has been activated by the Colorado Ice of the Indoor Football League (IFL) and will suit up for their game against Green Bay on Sunday, March 17 at 3 pm. The Ice play their home games on Majestic Roofing Field at the Budweiser Events Center located in Loveland, Colorado.
A six-foot-three, 255 pound defensive end out of Walforf, Md., Mayes left Wesley as one of the most decorated players in school history. Bursting onto the small college football landscape as a sophomore in 2009, Mayes received All-America recognition three-straight years, and was an AP Little All-American in his final two seasons. Also a two-time South Region Defensive Player of the Year, Mayes ranks second in school-history with 90.0 tackles for loss and fourth with 40.0 sacks. His 34.5 TFLs in the 2009 season is a single-season record.
The Colorado Ice was founded in 2006 and won its first Division Title in 2011 after going 11-3. Heron O'Neal, formerly of the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars and Chicago Bears, serves as the Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator. Mayes will be very familiar with the team's color scheme as its Navy Blue & White are the also the official colors for the Wesley College Wolverines.
