Hopkins Ties for Sixth in Final Lambert Cup Poll

CENTERVILLE, MA – The Johns Hopkins football team, which posted a 10-2 record, won a fourth straight Centennial Conference title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament this season, tied for sixth in the final Division III ECAC Lambert Cup Poll of the 2012 season. The Blue Jays are the only Centennial Conference team in the poll and this is the time in the last four years that JHU has finished in the top 10.

Hobart, which advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals, tops the poll, while Wesley, Widener, Cortland and Salisbury also sit ahead of the Blue Jays. Johns Hopkins finished in a tie with Trinity (CT) in sixth place.

Johns Hopkins tied the school record for wins in a season with its 10 victories this season and advanced past the first round of the NCAA Tournament for the second time in four years. The Centennial Conference title was the eighth for Johns Hopkins since 2002 and the Blue Jays spent the entire season ranked in top AFCA 25 for the second consecutive year.

Johns Hopkins previously finished in the top 10 in the final Lambert Cup Poll in 2009 and 2011. The Blue Jays finished a program-best second in 2009 and were ranked seventh in the final 2011 Lambert Poll.

The poll ranks teams in the East in all four Divisions of NCAA Football (FBS, FCS, Division II, Division III) and the team at the top of the poll at the end of the season is awarded the prestigious Lambert Cup.
